Field Notes: Toowoomba, QLD.
Field Notes, our go-to spots, straight from the wild. This week, we’re heading to sunny Toowoomba. Perched high on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, Toowoomba feels like a secret garden in the sky.
June 2025
Often known as the ‘Garden City,’ Toowoomba surprises visitors with its mix of blooming heritage charm, bold creative energy, and a strong local food scene that punches well above its weight.
Only 90 minutes from Brisbane, this elevated inland escape is perfect for those seeking a quiet reset, with golden paddocks, cute cafes, and crisp mountain air to greet you each morning. Whether you’re meandering through laneways lined with street art or picnicking beneath century-old trees, Toowoomba has a way of slowing you down in all the right ways.
We have three unique tiny homes in Toowoomba ready for you to book, each tucked away in nature but close enough to drive out of your nature bubble and explore town.
Tiny Norah: sleeping up to four guests, this tiny home allows the stresses of modern-day fall away whilst you connect with the healing benefits of nature. This tiny home is also pet-friendly. Book Tiny Norah here.
Tiny Kya: Nestled amongst the gums with a fire pit and wraparound views, this home is your go-to for long, outdoor bathtub soaks. Sleeping up to four, this tiny home also shares the land with some friendly horses who might say hello! Book Tiny Kya here.

Toowoomba’s food scene is blooming, think country comfort meets modern creativity.
Burrow Cafe: a neighborhood favourite with hearty breakfasts, good coffee and plenty of locals. The vintage fit-out and garden seating give it a cosy touch.
The Bakers Duck: a must-stop artisan bakery for pastries. Our tip? Arrive early, the almond croissants fly out the door.
Rosalie House: worth the scenic drive. This vineyard restaurant serves up paddock-to-plate meals with country views that stretch for miles.
Ground Up: an espresso bar hidden in a laneway, this café is small but mighty. Grab a flat white and a sweet treat while you soak up the mural-covered alley vibes.
There’s more to this place than meets the eye.
Queens Park & Botanic Gardens: Toowoomba’s floral heart beats in these places. Stroll beneath old trees, explore garden beds in bloom or time your trip with the annual Carnival of Flowers in spring.
The Makers Markets: think local ceramics, handmade goods, and vintage finds – a great way to connect with the community.
Day trip to Ravensbourne National Park: a lush rainforest pocket just 45 minutes away, ideal for birdwatching, walks and quiet picnics beneath the canopy.
Toowoomba Murals: this city’s laneways are a canvas of colour. Wander through Ruthven and surrounding streets to find giant blooms, native animals and abstract surprises tucked around every corner.
The vibe? Easygoing, fresh-aired, and full of character. Field Notes: Toowoomba is your sign to pack lighter, drive slower and let country Queensland surprise you.
