What to Pack for a Tiny Home Escape with Kids: The Ultimate School Holiday Checklist.
Heading off on a tiny home escape with the kids? Here’s your ultimate packing list to help you plan, stress less, and soak up more time in nature these school holidays.
July 2025
School holidays are here and there’s no better time to escape to nature. Whether it’s your first family adventure to a tiny home or you’re seasoned Into The Wild guests, packing for a getaway with kids takes a little extra planning.
Our tiny homes are thoughtfully equipped with the essentials, but a few smart extras can make your stay even more memorable (and stress-free).
Here’s what to pack for a tiny home escape with kids, so you can focus on what matters most: slowing down, exploring the outdoors and making memories together.
With it being winter, you want to ensure that you and the family are rugged up, ready for some cosy time in nature!
- Comfy clothes for layering: mornings can be chilly and afternoons warm, especially if you’re off-grid. Think leggings, long-sleeve tees, warm jumpers, and a waterproof jacket.
- Sturdy shoes for exploring: pack gumboots runners or hiking boots. Perfect for winter (especially if it’s raining)
- Sleepwear: for cosy nights inside the tiny home. Get the kids to pack their favourite pair of PJ’s.
- Swimmers: you might have booked a tiny home with a hot tub, or outdoor bathtub. Other tiny homes are near waterholes and rivers perfect for a dip!
Once out in the wild, sometimes shops can be slightly further afield. Our advice? Pack extra snacks and bring containers for food storage while away.
- Snacks, snacks, snacks: pack a few extra muesli bars, or extra fruit than you think you’ll need. Nature makes everyone hungry!
- Easy-to-prep meals: our tiny homes include everything you need to whip up a wholesome meal in nature, including a stovetop and a BBQ. Pre-marinated proteins, pasta and wraps are great go-to meals.
- Kid’s favourite’s: whether it’s a favourite breakfast cereal, hot chocolate or any food that adds comfort and familiarity.
- Reusable water bottles: great for exploring and staying hydrated on bushwalks.
Although our tiny homes have everything you need and nothing you don’t – we still recommend packing a few familiar extras.
- Books, puzzle or a game: we have beautiful books in our tiny home’s, along with yarn cards and games however, we understand children have their favourite games, or books that might be a part of bedtime routine. Pack these to bring a sense of ‘home’.
- Favourite comfort item: a soft toy or blanket can help little one’s settle into their new sleep space.
- Nature journal or sketch pad: encourage kids to draw, write, or collect leaves and flowers. Perfect for remembering their holiday in nature!
- Baby gear: if you’re travelling with toddlers, consider a travel cot, portable high chair or baby carrier.
- Sunscreen and hats: even though it’s winter, on those warm, wintery days it’s still so important to be sun safe.
Our tiny homes are designed to help families reconnect, with nature, with each other and with the slow rhythm of life outside the city. With just a little preparation, your school holiday escape will be one to remember.
